Statement Regarding Train Derailment
Update: As of 21:30 PM, damaged tankcars have been uprighted, repositioned and secured. Tankcar transloading is scheduled to begin Friday morning. Track reconstruction work will also be actioned in the coming days.
July 28, 2021 – On July 27, 2021 at approximately 15:15 PM a Great Sandhills Railway (GSR) train
derailed near Cabri, Saskatchewan.
A total of 7 tank cars containing Liquid Propane Gas were confirmed derailed. No personnel were
injured. The incident occurred at a very low speed.
No tank cars were found to be leaking and there is no impact on the environment.
GSR immediately activated its emergency plan and dispatched emergency response personnel and
equipment to the site where cleanup work is currently underway.
Local and regulatory authorities have been advised and are on site. The cleanup is expected to take 7-
10 days. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
GSR would like to thank first responders for their service, and the Town of Cabri and its residents for
their understanding and cooperation.
